The group of Bloodrunners were far more experienced than the two apprentices, and though the girls had taken one or two of them down in the process, they were quickly overwhelmed. The group's boss, a tall, lanky man with a scar across his face, disheveled black hair and heavily tanned skin, stepped forward to examine the prizes that his boys had managed to capture. It didn't matter that he'd lost a couple of men in the process. The girls were young, neither older than seventeen, and most likely very inexperienced in many areas.
Perfect.
He approached Nel first. She wasn't beautiful like her friend, but she certainly had qualities to her that he could use as a selling point. Her athletic build and tanned skin would find her some quick buyers, so he wasn't too worried. There was just the matter of making sure that she didn't escape. He kneeled down in front of the girl and grabbed her face with one of his hands. He turned her head side to side, examining her features. Her blond hair shined, and her bright blue eyes that belonged to the exotic Southern Continent were easily one of her most appealing features.
"You'll make me a nice amount of money, sweetheart," he said with a sneer. Nel responded by spitting in his face, and the boss stood up abruptly, taken aback by her defiant nature. Rage overtook him, and he struck her straight across one cheek, making her double over in pain.
"Nel!" Celestine shouted, fighting against the tight grip of her captors, though her struggles were futile. The boss wiped his face of the spit and gave Nel one last good kick.
"I hope you're a tough little bitch," he warned her. "I'm going to make sure that that defiant attitude of yours doesn't give me too much problem as I talk with future buyers." Celestine cried out again when he kicked Nel, and the boss turned to tell her to shut her trap, but the moment that he got a decent look at her, he stopped.
"... Bring her to me," he said, his voice suddenly stern instead of maniacal. The men that held Celestine down exchanged confused glances, but lightning shocked them both, making them recoil. "Now." The men complied and dragged Celestine over, throwing her at their boss's feet. The man grabbed a lock of Celestine's silver hair and yanked her up, making her yelp in pain, though she seemed to have gotten the idea that fighting back wasn't the best idea, as she didn't struggle to hard. The boss leaned in close to her and studied her eyes. After a moment, he took the lock of hair in his hand and studied it as well. It wasn't but a few seconds later that he began to chuckle. A wide grin spread across his face as he shoved Celestine to the ground and did some kind of celebratory dance.
The two men that had been holding Celestine glanced at each other. "Uh, Boss?" one asked, apprehensive towards the man's sudden change in mood. "You alright?"
The boss whirled on them, a manic grin on his face and an insane glint in his eyes. "Don't you boys see it?" he asked them, though the two were obviously confused. The boss rubbed the bridge of his nose and sighed. He yanked Celestine back up and turned the terrified girl to his subordinate. "The silver hair like the glow of a full moon? The gray eyes like the clouds on a snowy winter day? Are you really so blind?"
The men exchanged another confused look.
"My friends... This girl here is the daughter of the Snow Goddess Sarya."
Celestine's eyes widened in shock. She couldn't begin to comprehend how the man could have possibly come to that conclusion, but after barking an order, the men disappeared into a back room and returned with a vial of blood, a clean vial, and two beakers that were half filled with a clear liquid. Celestine started to struggle then, but the boss yanked her right arm out and forced her to the ground. Celestine grunted in pain as he pulled her arm behind her. One of the men brought one of the beakers over and held it below Celestine's arm. The boss pulled a knife from his belt and dug it into Celestine's arm. She yowled in pain as the blade cut deep, her blood flowing down her arm in a steady stream. It began to drip into the beaker, and the clear liquid began to glow a bright blue, much like the ice Rune on her blade. Celestine just stared in shock as the other man let a drop from the vial of blood drip into the other beaker. That liquid, too, began to glow that bright blue. The boss let out a manic laugh as tears filled Celestine's eyes. The Bloodrunners smuggled the blood of Gods, and if she truly was Sarya's daughter, she could only begin to imagine what kind of horrors she was about to experience.
"Ahhh..." the boss gave a satisfied sigh. "Today is a good day. Take them to two separate rooms and start readying them. Before you do, feel free to do whatever you wish with them."
As the two men that had helped the boss hauled Celestine off, she screamed out to Nel to help her, but her friend was unconscious, making her cries pointless and unheard. The last thing that Celestine saw before the door to her 'room' shut was Nel being taken into another room.
