Magic is the ability to enact your will over the world all around you. The effects of magic are wide and varied, limited only to the creativity of the magic user, though there are some restrictions.
How does Magic work?
Magic needs three things to move from the world of fantasy into reality: A focus, a word of power, and will.
A focus is an object used to focus your will, and shape it all the better. These range from swords, to wands carved from branches, to mystical tomes, to articles of clothing (though that one comes with a certain risque risk).
Words of power are nothing so odd as "Abracadabra" or anything else you heard in stories growing up. They are actually rather simple; the runes that represent the Seven Gods and Goddesses of Warryn. Runes are carved into the object being used as a focus, and when will is applied to the runes, and shaped through the focus, voila! magic.
Finally, will. Often overlooked in place of a more powerful focus (and that is important, but can wait for a moment), will is the force of your spirit. No matter how strong the spell you've prepared or how detailed the focus is, without the will to back it the most you'll do is set off a series of distracting sparks. Will provides the energy for the spell.
Important side notes
A focus can burn out. While this does not apply to the lucky few to be Chosen and receive an artifact of power from one of the gods, the rest of us have to find sufficiently resilient material to make a reasonable focus. If you take a wand made from a table leg and try to conjure a firestorm, then the wand simply won't be able to handle the magical force, where as a staff carved of dragonbone would perform admirably (though considering the extinction of dragons, dragonbone is in short supply).
Will cannnot cover everything. A failing in your spell or a flaw in your focus will require more will for a successful casting, and after a point your will won't be enough.
Runes can be dangerous if you are untrained. Do experiment, please, but don't try writing multiple runes over each other, or making your own. All you'll do is make yourself look like an oaf and harm others.
