Alexander wanted to argue. He didn't want to believably of this, but he was in no position to question the council. Their word was law and going against it willies come with severe consequences. Instead he bowed to them. "I understand. What would you have done with Alaric Tepes? At the moment, he is under the close watch on the quarters set aside for the chosen on their first visit."

"Bring him to us. The safest places for him right now are the most familiar. I worry that in his state, he may not recognize a friend when he sees one. We shall retire him to the chamber of one of the Executioners."

He took another bow. "As you wish. If you'll excuse me." He turned and left the chamber, facing one of the guards. "Bring Alaric Teoes to the executioners chambers." The guard nodded and left. He walked a little down the hall before turning a corner out of sight. "I hate meeting with them." In truth, he had only met with them once before and that was his appointment to Arviragus as a guard captain. In hindsight, it seemed a little strange. Especially considering the weekly reports he was ordered to send back to them.

Alaric groaned and opened his eyes. He was in an unfamiliar room, though the architecture was Libertaten. "Why am I here?" He sat up and looked around. The furnishings of the room were spare. There was the bed he lay on, a desk to one side of it with an empty inkwell and a feather quill laying on top of it. Across the room was a wardrobe, and a door beside that. A giant axe hung on the other side of the door. "An Executioner's room? I'm home...?" He stood and went to the door. It opened without any resistance into the long dark hallways under the city. He started following the signs that pointed to the way out.

At the end of last door before the exit was a room. A single guard sat at a table, his legs up and arms on his lap. When he heard Alaroc aproached, he didn't even move. Rather, he peeked over his shoulder and nodded his head. "Good to see you're awake." Alexander said, nonchalantly.

"I am sorry," Alaric said. He bowed his head. "I do not remember you. Who are you?"

He had a confused moment on his face before realizing they had never formally met before. He stood up and held out his hand. "Fifth Captain of the Libertatem royal guard. Just call me Alexander." he recalled the several times the two of them had been in the same place before. "It seems every time I have the opportunity of meeting you, you seem to be either recovering from some ailment or preoccupied by another far more important matter."

Alaric shook his hand with a firm grip. "I apologize. I meant no slight by it. Would it be alright if I asked you a question, Alexander?"

"Why am I here, Alexander? Last thing I can remember, I was falling asleep in Arviragus." He felt his heart start to race. Had he had an attack? Were Evie and Ezra alright? Gods, if he had hurt them, he would take his own life.

"On the insistence of the council, you have been returned to Libertatem so as better to accommodate your recovery." Well, it wasn't exactly a lie he told himself.

"They knew where I was?" Alaric sat down against a wall. "Well. I cannot say I am surprised, but how did they convince the others to let me go?"

"Believe me they didn't want to let you go. In your current condition, however, you needed the help of magic, that which Arviragus was unable to provide."

He shook his head. "That makes no sense. Aoife was there. She could be the best healer in the mortal world, thanks to her status as a Chosen."
