Charlotte sat in the garden, the librarian in hand while Alexander paced back and forth, a word look on his face. Four months and she had never seen him like this. Not even close. The silence became too much and she quickly put a hand on his shoulder. "Alexander, what's wrong?"
He jumped, forgetting she was there. The new information he had received put him on edge. He hardly knew what to say and Sara was nobody to be found. He would've rather spoke to her. "Look, I uh," he scratched the back of his nervously, "I need to leave for Libertatem. Immediately."
"What's wrong Alexander. You can tell me." A unfamiliar tone of concern crept into her voice.
He let out a distressed sigh. "I understand you're close to the king and queen and I'm risking a lot telling you this, but I've just received word of an impending war. The council has sent word for my regiment to return and prepare for battle."
Charlotte could tell he was upset. "You don't seem very keen on the idea."
"Of course I'm not! WAR-" he paused, realizing he had raised his voice. "War is never good, but this...." He paused, "this seems different. I'm sure their reasons are just and I will remain loyal to my country, but Arviragus are our allies. I wanted to support them, that's why I volunteered to assist in any way I could."
Charlotte pulled him to face her, looking at his face. "You're telling me this at the risk of your own life. I could tell Adminius and he may end your life right here and begin moving forward to Libertatem." Alexander nodded. "So why are you telling me?"
He gave her a weak smile, kneeling before her, his head bowed. "This feels ridiculius, but I grew up with stories of Antevorta guiding people when they needed it most. Well, I could really use a bit of guidance right about now."
Charlotte couldn't help but laugh at the ridiculousness of the situation. "Get up. This is ridiculous." She waited for him to stand up before continuing. "Guidance isn't my forte, but there's something wrong here, I know that much. That's why, even though I just got back, I'm coming with you undercover."
He raised an eyebrow at her. "even you couldn't come to Libertatem without being identified BEFORE this whole ordeal. What makes you-"
Charlotte didn't let him finish as her mask dissipated on her face, revealing what was underneath. The look on his face was exceptionally satisfying. "I think that answers your question." She set down the librarian. "You said immediately?" He nodded, absently, still adjusting to Sara. "Then let's get going. I'm going to have a lot of explaining to do." The two left the castle hastily. Charlotte hoped that the book had been listening.

Charlotte shook her head. "Highly unlikely. They would have to know about the war before being able to prepare for it." Without another word, they were soon racing out of the city.
