Charlotte followed close behind, ignoring the conversation. It was just a little too weird, which seemed odd compared to the life she was living.

The ride seemed to pass by slower than the first day. Their breaks seemed to take longer and Charlotte grew ever more anxious. She could feel it. The book, Alaric's seemingly impossible return, even Moreigans cryptic gift. It was the start of something big. And dangerous.

As the sun set, they arrived at the gates to the city. The guards let them through without incident, but eyed the two of them warily. It seemed they weren't entirely undamiliar with her previous ejection from the city and an unknown companion might be trouble.

The two paused while walking down a dark street. "We may be too late." She did her best to concentrate on Alaric in particular, but she couldn't seem to see him. "I don't know if it's safe for us to look for him now. We should stay at an inn and wait until morning."
