"You can't be serious! Why hold them back because I couldn't succeed?! They deserve to continue on!" He yanked Caladbolg from its place on his back. "Fine then. I'll humor this... Bargain."

Azrael cracked a grin. "There's the brakes, buddy." He swung the stone sword in a wide arc. Five bolts of red lightning spun out, snaking towards Adminius. "No hesitation, no holding back! Give it your all, dude. Show me what you've learned!"

Adminius took his stance, and fire began to swirl around him. "Not all that much, but we'll see." He made a quick dash and swung as soon as he neared the God, flames following the blade as it moved.

Azrael flicked Caladbolg aside with ease. The force of his next swing nearly ripped Adminius's arm from his shoulder. "C'mon, c'mon, who are you protecting here?" He slammed his leg up under Adminius's left arm, slinging him in a circle and throwing him to the ground.

Adminius grunted loudly and leapt to his feet, though those two blows clearly had him disoriented. He shook his head. Doubt was setting in. Just that small exchange nearly incapacitated him. If that was the case, how could he possibly land even a scratch? He had the element of surprise against the assassin, and that nearly cost him his life then. This was completely different. He clenched his teeth and shook his head again. This wasn't the time for doubts. The others were unknowingly counting on him, so failure was not an option. He took a deep breath and steeled himself with renewed determination. He just had to keep a distance between himself and Azrael. Easy enough. With that in mind, he concentrated on the rune that was etched into Caladbolg's blade. It glowed with a great intensity, and he swung, though the wave that followed wasn't the expected flames. Instead, it was a large, vertical wave of light that rode the ground all the way to Azrael.

Azrael laughed. It washed over him ineffectually. "You're pretty new to pyromancy, huh, guy? You ever ask why so few people use light as a weapon?" He sat down cross-legged. "C'mere. Temporary ceasefire." He patted the floor.

"... I... I didn't know light magic was a thing. And why cease fire? It's... Not the same if I don't succeed as I am."

"When a god tells you to sit, you sit." He patted the floor insistently.

He hesitated before placing Caladbolg on his back and sitting across from Azrael. "... What's this about then?"

He held his hands up. "Magic lesson. I'll try and leave the theory out, keep it simple." Between his hands a spark of fire took shape, flickering almost playfully. "What do you know about fire? Not just as a magic, but in general."

"In Arviragus, magic is virtually non-existent. To us, fire is a symbol of destruction and death, but a necessary evil, as of course, it is our source of light when darkness sets. That's all I could tell you."

"Make a fire, like I am." He indicated the space between his own hands.

He blinked. "Well... Okay then." He pulled Caladbolg from his back and placed a hand over the rune. He concentrated and fire formed a little over the blade.

Azrael put his own flame next to Adminius's. "Look here. Fire isn't just destruction and death. It's alive. Yours," he nodded towards Adminius's orange flame, "is pretty hot. It'll hurt things if you aren't careful, and a lot of that is because of your point of view."
He started to juggle his own flame, splitting it into three balls. "Fire is alive, man. It breathes, it eats, it grows, and it dies." He let two of the balls sputter out. The one in his hand flickered softly.

"You're right. I never said it wasn't. But what it eats is that which lives or even once lived. That is why we see it as destructive. It is simply what it is." He let the flame die.
