"This is Caladbolg. It is the symbol of Justitia's chosen, and a powerful artifact. I will instruct you in its proper use, at a later time. But for now, it is best if we take our leave." He left the sandalwood case where it lay, slapping the black back into place.

"Wh-why give it to me? There's no way that I of all people..." He shook his head. Selling himself short could wait. He had to get Aoife to safety. He grabbed her hand and charged through the streets, rushing towards the city exit.

''Well you'll have to take the crash course if you doesnt kniw how to use it already, cause i dont think these people are gonna wait for you to get a few lessons'' Cultus shouted to Adminius as he lifted his bow to draw on an opponent that had just turned the corner. He put the man in his sights.... and then the bow snapped, the grip splintering in two. The bow, made for someone much smaller than him, had been put under too much strain by his longer arms, and therefore greater pull. ''Shit.'' He pulled his own sword, readying for a fight.

Alaric clapped his hands together. A flash of light spread from the point of impact, sparks racing up his arms, flying off the pauldrons of his armor. Each of them popped into a blinding light. Alaric grabbed Adminius and the guard by the shoulders, pulling them back and towards the stables. "There is more than likely a guard at the stable. And depending on what the budget entrusted to these assassins was, we can expect considerably more than a few men with bows."

"What, you mean to get out of town on these?! If anything, that'll hurt our chances! We'll be conspicuous on all levels, and they'll know exactly where to find us!"

"Unless you believe that you can run and carry the princess faster than, I do think this is the best option." Alaric held a hand up for silence as they neared the stable.
"Adminius." He spoke softly. "Do not swing that sword near the horses unless you wish to bring all of the men remaining to us." The tingle at the base of his neck was constant now, more a buzz than a tingle really.

He just stared at Alaric for a moment before turning to Aoife. The princess merely nodded to the horses to indicate that she believed that Alaric was right. He hesitated for one more moment before helping her onto one. He climbed onto the next one. "We're going on ahead. They'll be looking for a group now, and she's still covered. Don't fall too far behind though. I still need you two." With that, he and Aoife charged out of the stables

"You. I do not know your name." Alaric indicated the Ghee guard. "I have seen your skill with a bow, but how do you handle a blade?"

''Better on a horse than on foot.'' He responded, getting on a gray and black speckled horse and drawing a long, curved sword in favor of his other, straight blade. ''They wont last long trying to bolt. Their headed to the east gate. I suggest we divert as many men as we can on our way out through the north gate.''

Alaric nodded. "I shall head north for now, then. We meet them in the closest town to the east." He jumped up onto a white horse. "I believe I can draw their attention well enough." He opened the gates of the other horses' stables and snapped his fingers. A tongue of fire sprang from his extended forefinger and set the loft ablaze. The horses screamed and bolted for the door. The assassins would notice them now.

Cultus smiled and roxe forward, setting his horse ath the front of the stampede. The horses would always follow the lead horse in a stampede. He saw five men running towards them, probably having predicted their escape plan. They stopped suddenly, seeing the stampede, and ran the other way.
Too slow. He turned the horses towards the market place where the whole mess had started. ''I'll see you at the next town tomorrow!'' He shouted as the tide of horses took him away from alaric.

Alaric rode through the city, grabbing the attention of as many of the armed men as he could. He drew them to the central courtyard, where the fountain lay inactive for the festival to discourage public bathing. He took the ebony case from his back and opened it. "If it were possible to take you all in that you might provide some use before you die, I would take all action to ensure you were."
Smoke curled over Alaric's face and a helm as black as the case in his hands solidified from it. He pulled a slim sword, 4 feet long and solid black, from the box.
"But as it were, I am the last sight you shall ever see. Go with the gods."
He spurred his horse into movement and cut towards one of the assailants. The man moved to block with his hefty axe, but Alaric's sword sank through it like a stone through water. Where the sword's edge passed, there were simply parts of the axe and the man holding it missing. Blood began to bubble up from the stumps of the man's arm and neck. Alaric turned for another charge. "I should not keep the others waiting."

Cultus seperated from the stampede the moment they hit the market square. The civilians were pong gone, but so were all but a few assasins, searching the buildings for the princess to make sure she wasnt hiding. Most fled when the horses came into view, and the rest were trampled. -Good enough- he thought, turning his horse east. He passed a tree on the way and remembered the captured man that had been sealed in a tree. He turned, looking for where the man was, and cut him out. A moment pater he was bound and gagged, slung over the horse. Cultus made his way to the north gate.

Thanks to the distractions by Alaric and the Ghee guard, Adminius and Aoife were able to break through the East gate with ease. Adminius cast one last glance back at their city, the chaos shaking him to his core. Going away, he could only believe it less and less. With a solemn breath, he turned Aoife and nodded. She returned his nod, and they urged the steeds to move faster to the next city.

Alaric collapsed against the trunk of a tree outside the city limits. He was weary to his bone, almost literally. At least forty men lay in heaps around him, blood congealing where parts of them had vanished into his blade. Reverently, he placed the blade into it's specially forged sheath. He stood and made his way to his horse. The horse snorted, undisturbed by the scents of carnage.
Alaric smiled. He had trained this horse for war, though he had never given him a name. Alaric believed that if ever the horse received a name it should come from someone else. He slid into the saddle and started east.
